Re-Betchworth AppleFest

Re-Betchworth’s AppleFest – not to be missed!!

Get the date in your diary now – Saturday 5th October 1.00-4.00pm at Betchworth Village Hall

AppleFest, a day for all the family, whether or not you’re expecting a bumper apple crop! We’ll be running all our usual apple pressing, juice sales and kids’ activities, with delicious freshly pressed juice, cakes, puds, tea and coffees on offer all afternoon.

Plus, you’ll find a whole host of new attractions for this year’s event at Betchworth Village Memorial Hall where the outside space will be transformed into a veritable carnival of apples and nature-related activities for the whole family to enjoy.

NEW: Garden tool and knife sharpening

Have your secateurs lost their edge? Your knives or scissors not cutting as they once did? Your loppers taking more effort than before? Bring them all as well as your edging tools, hoes, spades, shears or any other garden or household tool. Let Adam of Surrey Sharpeners bring them back to life. Well known for his service to various local horticultural societies, Adam is setting up his mobile workshop in the hall car park (long before the AppleFest officially opens at 1.00) so you can drop off your tools early, pick them up later and enjoy a coffee and AppleFest cake in the afternoon when the Juicing is in full flow.

NEW: Surrey County Council’s Greener Futures team will be bringing their ‘engagement’ trailer to the Festival, with information on a host of their sustainable living schemes. Pop to the Greener Futures stand to discuss the Local Nature Recovery Strategy, and understand how Surrey’s communities and residents can shape the Surrey Nature Recovery framework, following the lead of exemplars like the 4Bs Biodiversity Park. Find out how you and your neighbours can take advantage of free in-person home energy assessments to help keep your home healthy, warm, and contributing to Surrey’s environmental and climate targets.

NEW: The Re-B Bake off with categories for adults and children – What’s your apple-themed speciality – cake, tart, crumble, strudel or whatever in our inaugural baking competition…? And walk away with a big smile on your face, a winner’s Rosette (maybe). Could this be you? After judge, local WI President Mary Clark, has decided on the winners, you can take your entry home, or donate it for others to enjoy and to raise funds for the Re-B charity’s continued activities.

NEW: Chutneys, Jams & Jellies – Come and browse; there’ll be a huge selection of delicious local produce on sale in the hall.

NEW: Children’s Art Competition – Apple-themed – of course! This year, as part of Re-Betchworth’s AppleFest, we’re running a children’s art competition to celebrate all things apple. Full details will follow, but in brief – artwork should encompass (surprise!) the apple theme, eg: an orchard, apple trees, apple blossom, apples, apple juice, cider.

NEW: Cider making – Tempted to make cider this year?  We’ll have an expert on hand to advise on all things cider-making; there’ll be kit available to buy too. Go on, give it a go!
