A25 Reigate Road : Road Safety Improvements

The SCC Road Safety team, working within Surrey Highways, is working on delivery of a programme of “safety improvements” along the stretch of the A25 Reigate Road between the High Street in Reigate and the Cockerel roundabout in Dorking.

Surrey Highways has secured funding from the UK Government Department for Transport towards the cost of the programme and is forecasting the work will be complete by March 2025.

A limited amount of information about the 16 schemes which make up this programme of safety improvements, is published on the SCC website.  You are encouraged to take a few moments to read the descriptions under each of the scheme headings.

A consultation was recently undertaken for scheme 14, work planned for the stretch of A25 Reigate Road between Flanchford Road and Reigate High Street.  Whilst you have missed your opportunity to have your say (the consultation closed on 14th July) – you can still check out the views that have been expressed – you will find a link to the consultation within the description of scheme 14.

Work on delivering Scheme 14 started on Monday 23rd September and whilst the target completion date was initially set for Saturday 19th October 2024 an extension was recently granted to allow the team an extra week to complete the work.

The remaining work between Flanchford Road and Reigate High Street will be completed with the use of temporary traffic signals.  The work will be both during the day and during the night with daytime working between 10am and 4pm and nighttime working between 8pm and 6am.   The highways team managing the work had hoped it would be substantially complete by Saturday 26th October 2024 but, emergency drainage work on Station Road Betchworth, that commenced Monday 21st October, has led to work on the A25 , which is part of the diversion route for the emergency work, being postponed. Hopefully, as the drainage works were completed by Friday 25th October, allowing Station Road to reopen, a new timescale will soon become clearer. Further updates will be posted here.

However you travel between Dorking and Reigate, whether on foot, or on two or more wheels you will be impacted by the changes so you are encouraged to keep abreast of the plans, and, if you have any thoughts on schemes one and five, which relate to safety improvements at the Brockham Lane Junction and in Dorking, make a note in readiness for the promised consultations, the timing of which have yet to be announced.

If, having read the information on the SCC website you have any comments and/or concerns relating to any of the other schemes or feel more details need to be provided; as Surrey Highways does not appear to be making any commitment to consult on these schemes, please share your comments and/or concerns and any requests for more information to both SCC Cllr Helyn Clack and Buckland Parish Council.

Submitting reports to Surrey Highways

SCC Highways Engineers have informed your parish council that when a programme of works is being prepared, reports submitted by residents (via www.surreycc.gov.uk or by calling 0300 200 1003) are taken into account.   If you identify an issue or concern relating to any part of a highway in Buckland, whether related to the main carriageway, roadside footway, roadside verge, traffic signage or drainage please submit an online report.
